Snowflake Challenge: Day Two

Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

Day 2

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

Hmm, I'm clearly doing a few of these days late but that's part of the joy of the snowflake challenge I think, not having to follow a strict schedule. I think this one slowed me down because i got stuck on the "communities" part. I'm really not active on dreamwidth and am much more active on twitter but would feel kinda super wierd reccing someone's twitter. I know a lot of people's twitters are different but I keep mine locked and talk about my life a lot more than I talk about fannish things. But after a little bit of digging, here are my recs!

On Dreamwidth

[community profile] mikeyway_daily is one of the few comms I have on my regular dw reading list, since most comms post so often they clog my regular reading list and I keep them on another list I look at when I'm up to it. It always posts great photos, is super organised and when there is chatter in the comments, it's always super fun and nice!

[community profile] bandom_meme is definitely something you should check out if you're a bandom person. Bandom's a pretty spread out fandom now and it's pretty quiet but it's fun and the mods are great.

AO3 run challenges

Bandom BFF fest - i've written for this once and watched it happen the other time and it's a great, small fest that always seems to turn out small, perfectly formed gems of fic.

medievalpoc isn't a fannish tumblr but it's a great source and educating blog for anyone interested (like me) in history. They share well-sourced and researched art from Medieval Europe trying to demonstrate that what we would now consider to be POC definitely existed in Medieval Europe. (The annoying thing about Medieval Europe is their concept of race was significantly different so sometimes when writing about people they wouldn't say "this person is brown!!" because that wasn't the obvious thing to say.) The blog is by an American and is talking about the concept and issue in an American educational setting but it's very interesting and I've learned a lot of interesting things!

@emergencylotr - I run this (pretty sporadically I'll admit) which tweets lotr quotes, for those middle earth emergencies.

@isreadan - isweedan tweets the fic she's currently reading. She's very multifannish and "what isweedan is reading" is a good enough rec in and of itself.
If you're just looking for fannish folks to follow and sometimes join in the squee, croissantkatie, cryingonsundays, herm_ette_concinnityLittleMousling, are good people, just off the top of my head. I'm girlmarauders there as well, if you wanna go through my following list and just follow people.

All Done!

I love medievalpoc! Whilst the framing is very clearly about issues with the American educational system, it's super interesting! And it's really helped me look at things with more open eyes. And seeing them post stuff I've looked at previously, and I just get this "well, duh, why didn't I notice that before?" moment. And yeah. Super useful and interesting.
